AFRICA’s BIGGEST AIRPORT HOTEL OPENS IN ETHIOPIA

Africa’s biggest airport hotel opens to the public in Ethiopia 

Ethiopia has opened Africa’s biggest airport hotel in the continent. The  5 star Ethiopian Skylight hotel which is worth $USD 65 million will help boost the nations tourism sector. The hotel is owned by the Ethiopian Airline as a medium to create a more sustainable business; especially through diversified income streams.

Ethiopia is planning to lead the African aviation industry, and compete among global airlines. Ethiopian airline have now joined the ranks of global airlines that own hotel.

The hotel was inaugurated on Sunday 27th January 2019 and opened to the public today 28th January 2019 as the biggest hotel in Addis Ababa and the biggest airport hotel in Africa.

 

The Ethiopian Skylight hotel will have a huge impact on the Airline revenue and also on the Ethiopian economy at large. The hotel is just five minutes away from the new Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Meanwhile, the hotel stands on a 40,000 square meters land. It has 373 rooms, the biggest conference and banquet hall in Addis Ababa that can accommodate 2,000 guests at once. There are also 5 small size meeting rooms for 20-30 persons.

The biggest airport hotel in Africa also have 4 restaurants including the biggest Chinese restaurant in Africa; An Ethiopian restaurant and an European restaurant. It also have three bars – lobby bar, executive (rooftop) bar and Jazz club.

The Ethiopian Skylight hotel have a health centre that provides spa, massage and gym services, there is also an outdoor swimming pool with a pool bar and mini golf court in the premise.

According to Ethiopian Airline’s head of Infrastructure Planning and Development, Abraham Tesfaye – “We are striving to make Addis Ababa the main gateway to Africa. The hotel will play a significant role in boosting the tourism sector.”

The Airline plans to make Addis Ababa a conference hub. Meanwhile, the hotel project received funding from  Ethiopian Airlines and EXIM Bank of China with the latter contributing 65% of the funds.
